According to external media reports, WebLe has closed down the T-Minus Zero Enterprise studio in Austin, and last week Rich Vogel, the head and co-founder of the studio, announced that collaboration with WebLe had been terminated in the United Kingdom. Rich Vogel, a senior producer, was involved in major developments such as Star Wars: Old Republic, Destroyer, New World, Halo: Unlimited.

Rich Vogel writes in his post: “Every journey is full of twists, and our collaboration with the Internet is about to end. We are deeply grateful to the ease with which the Network has provided us with sufficient funding and support, from facilitators to potential investors, giving us time and budget to develop the game into a full and fun version, which has generated considerable market attention.”
“Despite these advances, the current market environment does not allow us to secure the required funds.” In addition to Vogel, co-founder of the BioWare Austin Studio, the team included several senior developers from BioWare and Bethesda, including Mark Tucker, Jeff Dobson and Scott Malone. The team’s first project was originally a new science fiction-based third-person online multiplayer game.

When Vogel was created in the studio, he said: “Our mission is to create an epic, immersed world, where global players play together and create vibrant communities.” In September 2023, a month after the creation of a studio, Vogel spoke frankly about the challenges of developing online games in the current environment in an interview with the Play Industry magazine: “We are engaged in games or service, which is not easy. The large amount of money needed to be invested in server set-up and global architecture, which is why I do not want to experience multiple rounds of financing, could lead to a cycle of continuous demonstration and hotspot pursuit. We may have succeeded or failed, but we have benefited greatly in this process.”
Vogel says the studio is aware that “to seek financing in the current environment may not be the best time”, but a demonstration version is proof that the team has “the potential to develop innovative works that can resonate with players over time”. He stressed: “We are proud of the solid foundation we have laid together.”

The Internet has issued a statement to Game Devloper confirming that the “hard decision” to close the studio has been taken. “This decision, after careful consideration, has always been inspired by the spirit of cooperation and bold vision of the studio. But because of the need to reassess operational priorities, we are working closely with the studio to support it and to explore follow-up options.”
